In January 2008, filmmaker Amy Brown and her team traveled to Rwanda to begin filming the documentary, Rwanda Reporting.
A moving story about the power of the media and the resilience of a country ravaged by genocide, the film follows four Rwandan journalism students and their professorsprofessional journalists from Canadafor six-weeks at the journalism school at the National University. It is the story of their struggle to understand how the abuse of the press during the 1994 genocide affects their work today; it is the story of their efforts to cover under-reported stories about Rwanda, and it is their challenge to international news outlets: run stories about Africa that are not exclusively about extreme suffering and violence.
A scholarship fund for Rwandan journalism students will be created from a portion of the proceeds raised from the film.
